what are you thankful for?

happy thanksgiving!
although I'm really not ready to go back to the united states, I really miss my family & I wish that we could all be together for the holiday.
~*~
I miss my dad & his goofy jokes.
I miss my mom & her hugs.
I miss my sister & watching GG together with a bowl full of popcorn.
I miss my brother-in-law & trying to sleep on the floor to the sound of his guitar & my sister yelling at him to play a new song.
I miss all of my relatives & wish that we could all be together tomorrow to cook, enjoy the feast & watch football.
~*~
more importantly, I'm thankful that I am lucky enough to have all these great people to miss.

the only hero of a war with no history.

dear tuesday,
i'm tired today.
I somehow managed to stay in bed all afternoon.
thankfully, carlos came over to keep me company.
we cuddled & watched mi mejor enemigo.
he is cute & the movie was super buena.

truth

patagonia, chile

{19 de noviembre de 2009}

when will you wake
to the feet of the mountain
and sore upwards
above the ground you and I have been given
to discover that truth
is like the endless miles of black pavement
that rests before you?

bird

it was passed from one bird to another,
the whole gift of the day.

the day went from flute to flute,

went dressed in vegetation,
in flights which opened a tunnel
through the wind would pass

to where birds were breaking open
the dense blue air--
and there, night came in.

~*~

when I returned from so many journeys,

I stayed suspended and green
between sun and geography--

I saw how wings worked, how perfumes are transmitted
by feathery telegraph,

and from above I saw the path,
the springs and the roof tiles,

the fishermen at their trades,

the trousers of the foam;

I saw it all from my green sky.

I had no more alphabet
than the swallows in their courses,

the tiny, whining water
of the small bird on fire
which dances out of the pollen.

jardín botánico nacional

13 de noviembre de 2009

everytime I'm near a botanical garden I make sure I visit.
there's something about the smell,
the way the wind whips through the trees,
the reflection of the sun against the water,
and the sound of the little birds chirping in the distance.
this time around
I think the people I shared the moment with helped make the experience.
I couldn't ask for a better group of friends.

Address
Color Café
Papudo 526, Cerro Concepción

mckenna & I walked around valpo all morning, snapping pictures of graffiti & searching for the perfect place to grab some grub, refreshing drinks & a comfortable shelter from the heat. after hours of wandering we made it to cerro concepción where colorful signs and decorations on calle papudo caught our eye. it was the vibrant energy of the restaurant, color café, that lured us in, but the menu is what will bring us back. serving a variety of drinks (tea leaves, hot chocolate, fresh coffee, beer and wine) & offering a delicious lunch & desert menu (with many vegetarian options), color café should definitely be on the top of your list for restaurants to visit.
