wesli, jess and i went to the playa to look for gloves, hats and socks at the tiendas.

right before we were about to leave the fog started rolling in.

yesterday:

wesli, nano & i took a day trip to valparaiso.

because the US Navy is currently at the port, the American flag is displayed on the monument & crypt to the heroes of iquique at plaza sotomayor.

walking around valpo can be tiring, so we stopped to relax at brigeton.

the restaurant had the most amazing view & delicious drinks. i must go back soon!

valpo is completely decorated in graffiti.

not only do i have the greatest host family, but

my sister, francisca, is a chef & she is the BEST cook ever.

teatro municipal: august 22, 2009.

on saturday a group of us went to an orchestra concert put on by la pontificia universidad catolica de valparaiso.

i was impressed with how the orchestra used a variety of instruments and ritmos latinoamericanos in order to create music that was full of emotion & history.

playing catch up: August 20, 2009

surprisingly, wesli & i did not spend much time together our first week in chile, so this past thursday we had a wesli-emy night.

we weren't sure exactly what we wanted to do so we walked down libertad until we discovered something that looked appealing.

the live music and great specials at 'pincho moruno' looked promising so we decided to try something new.

we definitely had the right idea. we ended up splitting 'dos pisco sours y una tortilla espanola' for only $5.800 (US$11.60) and everything was DELICIOUS!

after a couple hours of catching up at the restaurant we went back to my house to skype greta.

{you have no idea how much we miss you!!}

today zach, lisa and i decided skip the collectivo, put away our maps and wander home. 

{i was trying to take a picture of the city and at first i thought that the girl in the bottom right corner had ruined my picture, THEN i realized that her sweatshirt said 'emily.' what a coincidence!}
